These methods are effective for both types of arthritis: Rheumatoid (RA) and Osteoarthritis (OA).

Keep Active

When you keep active you help to both preserve and restore range of motion and flexibility. This helps the areas around the effected joints. Also when you stay active you help yourself to maintain muscle or even increase muscle which will help increase your strength and endurance. You will also increase your aerobic conditioning in turn strengthening your heart. Exercise also releases endorphins which can energize your body and get you in a better mood making you happier and therefore thinking less about your arthritis pain.

Get or Keep Your Weight Under Control

If your arthritis pain is in your hip or thigh areas extra weight can bear heavily on those affected areas. Losing weight can take some of the burden off of the hip and knee joints. Even losing just 10 pounds can make a significant difference. The less weight those joints have to carry the better you will feel. If you are not over weight be sure to maintain your weight so that you don’t cause any extra pain for yourself in the future.

Eat Right

Be sure to eat a balanced diet. Your body needs plenty of vitamins and minerals to maintain healthy bones and joints. Be sure to get vitamin C and plenty of vitamin D. Also make sure to get some Omega-3 fatty acids they may help to reduce inflammation and also protect your vitamin D stores.

Take Glucosamine and Chondroitin Supplements

Glucosamine and Chondroitin can help to slow the degradation of cartilage. Be aware that it takes at least 4 to 6 months for their use to become effective. You should also take at least 1,500 milligrams of glucosamine and 800 mg of chondroitin daily. Of course check with your doctor before putting your self on these over the counter supplements.

Avocado Soybean

Avocado soybean is an extract that is said to reduce pain and inflammation associated with joint pain. It also helps to slow the progression of joint damage. Again talk to your physician before taking this.

Get Your Sleep

More sleep means more energy in the waking hours. More energy means less pain.

Get Some Heat

Applying heated lotions and heating pads can help to temporary relieve pain associated with arthritis because it dilates blood vessels and increases blood to flow to the areas where the heat has been applied.

Eat Ginger

Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties which help to ease the pain of arthritis. Try shredding some ginger over dishes it compliments any meat nicely. You could also take it in supplement form. If you are only using supplements be sure to take two doses of 255 mg per day.
